Standard Bearer Assignment Options

Walking Volunteers – As a walking Standard Bearer you will follow a single group of golfers from the time they tee off through the end of play.  This is a highly visible volunteer position.  You will carry the “Standard” that displays the names of the golfers in the group and their scores.  We need you at the course and in the tent to get ready no later than 45-30 minutes prior to your groups tee time.  Your shift can run from 3 – 6 hours depending on the speed of play.  We need the most volunteers for these spots.  (56 per day)

Alternate – As an alternate we need you in the tent for the first tee time of that shift through the last group coming in of that shift (AM or PM).  An alternate fills in for someone who is absent or late, or has a problem during the course of the round.  Karen has named these volunteers ‘alternate angels’ because they are willing to do whatever is needed of them!  An early alternate for example would need to be available from around 7 am until noon.  We have pagers (vibrating) for the alternates to wear so that they can go and watch a little golf if we do not need them right away.   (20 per day)

Turn Around – This position is a godsend to the walking Standard Bearers.  As a turn around, we stage you at the halfway point 9th green and 18th green on Wednesday through Friday and 9th green on Saturday and Sunday.  Your job is to meet the walking Standard Bearer as they approach the green and give them a chance to use the rest room.  If they need the break you will carry the standard to the green and hopefully the walker will be back to retrieve their standard as the group moves on to the next tee.

Call Team – This is a service to all of our volunteer Standards.  We like to try and call everyone the night before as a reminder of their tee time.  With our tee times on the volunteer web site this year…we will only be calling those of you without internet access.  All times and group numbers will be posted on our site!  (As you know we have been known to be in the tent well after dark trying to reach everyone because if the rounds run late on Friday and Saturday…it is a forever long deal!  No more late calling!)

Set Up or Tear Down – As a set up volunteer you will help us unpack the boxes and get the Standard Bearer Tent ready for the week.  As a tear down volunteer you will help pack up the equipment boxes for winter storage.

Signs – Volunteering for signs means that you get to put together the standard sections, pull and file names, and make sure the boards are ready for play the next day.

Make a Wish Booth – Because we care…we have an opportunity to staff the Bird Booth for a time slot during the tournament.  This year will be by a drawing of all interested charities…we may be drawn, maybe not.  We would like to know if you would be willing to help us.
